The great Lebanese poet   Khalil Gibran presented a sordid picture of a nation,   which has remarkable relevance to  present –day India, in following lines :
“ Pity a nation whose sages are dumb ,
And whose strong-men are still in the cradle
Pity the nation divided into fragments ,
Each fragment deeming itself a nation .
The glory that was Ind as an Akhand Bharat is lost and the picture painted above is a reflection of  the present Indian scenario . Communal and other forms of hatred are  gaining  grounds, dividing the nation into fragmented gangs and each fragment  is trying to establish its supremacy over others, completely ignoring the unity that India  presents. The sages or wise men   , who are supposed to shoulder the responsibility of guiding  us  in right direction had remained silent spectators of the drama of disintegration  . On the other hand the people who are endowed with economic ,social,  political powers and religious followings and whose  responsibilities are to elevate the Nation to a stage of a United India, are still confined to their narrow self-interests . For most of them national interest is secondary and as a result our Indian Nation has been occupying a back seat in the Comity of Nations .The burning question of the hour that looms large : Is it for accepting such a destiny of Free India that our freedom-fighters sacrificed their lives ?
In an all-inclusive, multi-religious nation like India when a particular group or community comes into conflict with Government on issues of national importance viz   C. A. A . ,N. P. R . , N. R. C. etc. without any rhyme or reason ,without entering into any dialogue with the Government for which the latter is always prepared  and only on the basis of rumors spread by certain persons with a view to de-stabilize the  the nation as a whole,  there are chances of complete breakdown of harmony and a devastating  chaos which the nation is likely to  witness. Unfortunately ,the so-called secular parties start fanning the flames , the self-styled intellectuals claiming themselves to be supporters of” Justice – seekers” start supporting the issues raised by disintegrating anti-national  forces without realizing the consequences of the unjust demands made by a particular  group or section of society.
Like a bolt from the blue comes C.O.V.I. D-19 originating from Wuhan ,China in January 2020 and within four months this pandemic corona virus disaster has threatened the whole human race  engulfing every nation , irrespective of color, race, sex, age, & political, technological and economic status . Unlike “ The Plague” of French Nobel Laureate Albert Camus  which swept only a small French Algerian colony, the present global Corona virus disaster has now aroused Khalil Gibran,s Sages or Wise Men of both East & West from their ecstatic slumber and infusing a sense an existentialist concern in the present situation.    In such a critical situation, on 14th April we come across a call from a Buddhist  sage of the stature of Nobel laureate Dalai Lama  with  a most soothing statement that “Prayer is not enough” to fight this global enemy COVID—19. “                Photographs from space clearly show that there are no real boundaries on our blue planet……….This pandemic is a warning that only by coming together with a co-ordinated global response will we meet the unprecedented magnitude of  challenges we face.” Pope Francis of Vatican also called for solidarity to confront the epochal challenge posed by corona virus pandemic and use it as  a  “ time of trial to prepare for a collective future where inequalities are abolished and poorest are no longer left behind “( Associated Press dt. 19th April 2020 ) . In the same breath Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in his post on 23rd March 2020 says “ The corona virus is definitely a catastrophe for the world, but does not have to mean Apocalypse. Despite the dark clouds of gloom silver linings are emerging  bright enough to bring hope.  What we need to focus on is ‘’ Social distancing which is not a punishment. Silence and solitude are potent means for personal growth and self-renewal …..Many great works have  emerged out of solitude”. All these statements by sages or wise men prophecy that the  present crisis is bound to come to its ultimate end.
Next comes the role of Gibran,s economically strongmen viz. big Business Houses who are coming forward with their maximum contributions for the revival and reconstruction of our devastated  economy which the country has suffered most, owing to several lockdowns in the last two months . No less important is the small contributions made by different strata of wage earners which also will go a long way in   reconstruction of our economy which is at its lowest. Much more is expected from huge Religious Trusts who have amassed huge funds from God-fearing followers ,not only for maintaining the  majesty of their deities but also for feeding their hungry followers and come forward to rebuild the devastated economy of the Indian nation and be   relevant to their faithful followers .
Lastly  the most important role is to be played by politically strongmen who have now evolved out of their cradles with massive popular support.  An objective world-view of present scenario  of all the top leaders fighting against the horrifying Chinese Dragon, in spite of all criticisms from both inside and outside the country , presents our  leadership at the top among world leaders in combating C.O.V.D-19 .The timely lockdown for social distancing, guiding corona virus warriors in right direction in a country with a population of 1.3 crores, resulting in minimum transmission of corona virus and deaths, sincere efforts to help all those who have been stranded anywhere inside or outside the country in returning back to their homes with all the safety measures, and encouraging the researchers in 30 well-equipped laboratories of the country who are about to succeed in discovering the remedy of this deadly virus and lastly the most timely announcement of an economic package to the tune of 20 lakh crore for the Self-devlopment program already running under Govt. of India for fast upliftment of suffering millions ,  testimony  the Most Outstanding Diplomat of India,s dynamic leadership ,accompanied by the strong will power of Indian people to succeed in the great mission . This phenomenal success of India in victory over the  greatest killer virus and many more events are enough to prove that the prophecy of the great British historian Arnold Toynbee that ‘’ the Twenty- first century will be the century of man and religion and India will be in the hagemony of the world ‘’, is most likely to materialize in very near future

Soaring high into the Infinite sky Swami Swami Vivekananda ,s first and foremost Adhyatmik Icon Adi Shankarcharya , had been completely rooted and immersed in the non-dual Advait Brahman professing complete identity between Atman (Soul) and Brahman (God) ,treating the world as Maya (illusion) .Maya of Shankar is not exactly unreality but a Leela ,a stage play where each one is assigned with certain Varna(class) duties and Ashrama,s (status) duties to be performed selflessly (nishkam) .In spite of being a Gyanyogi (follower of path of knowledge) Shankaracharya .never forgot his last rites duties towards his dead mother at his native place. When he came back to the native place no one even of his clan co-operated and as such he was forced to cut dead mother,s body into three pieces and then only cremated without apology 3

K A R L M A R X & S W A M I V I V E K A N AN D AA COMPARATIVE STUDY OF SOCIO-POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY

On the eve of Death Anniversary of Karl Marx on 14th. March

At this juncture it will be interesting to draw a parallel between the two intellectual giants of Nineteenth Century, Marx and Vivekananda , joined accidently by birth in the same century . These two wizards have left indelible marks on the thought currents of posterity, particularly in respect of socio-political ideas : yet the two are treated as polar opposites in the realm of their ideologies and programs . See more ……….

“The four castes were emanated from me,
By their different distribution of qualities and actions.”
Thus spake Lord Krishna in Bhagwat Geeta (chap.4: shlok 13) and Chaturvarnya (the four castes or classes) formed the vertical and horizontal strands constituting variegated Indian Society throbbing with life and vigor . Each caste or class was assigned with certain specific duties , the performance of which , leads to an individual perfection of character on the one hand , and upliftmen of society at large on the other. Swami Vivekananda is of the view that the Hindu caste system in its original form i.e. Chaturvarnya which has its roots ,not in heredity but in one’s aptitude, or Swabhava , ought to be revived .In his words “ Let Jati have its way, break down every barrier in the way of caste and
we shall rise”. To the present day sociologists Swami,s call for the revival of an out –dated caste system of 19th.century may sound queer ; but an objective analysis of Swami ji,s views will prove the relevance of caste system even in the present day.
Etymologically the word Jati (caste) means “Creation” which necessarily implies variation or diversification (vichitrata). Diversity is the essence of Life without which the whole human society would turn into dull homogeneity. Jati or creation leads to such a diversity resulting in Four Classes or Chaturvarnya .The original idea of “Jati’ ,in the words of Swami ji, “was the freedom of individual to express his nature, his prakriti” and not the regimentation of thoughts and conduct within water-tight compartments. At this point Swamiji,s views stand in sharp contrast against the Marxists for whom “Classes are large groups of people differing from each other by the place they occupy in in a historically determined system of social production “.(George Hanna –Marxist Philosophy —An Outline) .Thus for the Marxists classes are a result of a rigid social determinism of an extreme form in which the interest of individual is subordinate to the interest of the society.Treating classes as fetters and an impediment in the way of freedom of individual ,which according to Swamiji, is most essential in social set-up .The Marxists found Salvation of mankind in a communist set-up which “ …..is a classless social system with one form of public ownership of the means of production and full social equality of all members of society……( G .Hanna-iMarxist Philosophy )
Every event of the phenomenal world is governed by an inexorable Law of Evolution and class and caste are no exception to it .Tracing the course of social evolution, Swamiji said “………in the beginning of Satyug there was one caste , the Brahmin ,and then by differences in occupations they went on dividing themselves into different Castes “, viz. Brahmin ,Kshatriya ,Vaishya and Shudra . Each of the four castes had occasion to rule over the rest at different periods of the History of Civilization. The Brahmins (Priest class) dominated the thought currents of the world during the glorious days of early civilization viz. Brahmins during the ancient Hindu Rule, Pope of Rome ruled the Medieval period .Then came the kshatriya Kings or the Feudal lords when the military power of Kings ruled all over the world as Dictators. Next followed the Rule of Vaishyas or the Capitalist Society ,marked by the rise of U.S.A. Thereafter Swamiji prophesied the coming supremacy of Shudras(Proletariat ) class and stated that “The next upheaval will come from Russia or China”. Swamiji really possessed a prophetic vision which enabled him to visualize the Communist Revolution more vividly and accurately than Karl Marx , the Prophet of Communism long before the outbreak of Bolshevik Revolution in Russia in the year 1917. The rule of Shudra, according to Swamiji is not the ultimate goal of
Social Revolution. As evolution moves in a cyclic order, it must culminate in that stage from where it started I.e., The supremacy of Brahmin .
Delineating the evolutionary course of human society Karl Marx , the founding father of Communist Philosophy stated that social development began with “ primitive communist societies …..based on common ownership of the means of production and were therefore relations of co-operation and mutual assistance between people “ . This stage was followed a Slave society in which a slave-owner, generally a Chieftain of a tribe had “……..complete ownership of both the means of production and the slave himself and everything he produced ……”The Feudal society next appeared with a feudal lord or a King having “…ownership of the means of production (mainly the land ) and part- ownership of the serfs , by virtue of muscular strength and pedigree alone” .(Dr. G. Hanna—Marxist Philosophy —–An Outline p.p187—190 ). The process of exploitation, which commenced with a Slave society reached its apex in the next stage of Capitalist society, wherein the capitalist by means of a most calculated maneuvering, appropriated the fruits of ill-paid workers. The contradiction between social character of production and private form of appropriation is so complete that a Socialist Revolution, according to Karl Marx, was bound to take place ; firstly, in industrially advanced countries like England and Germany and thereafter will spread all over the world , exploding capitalist societies everywhere. This revolution would lead to the establishment of a Communist State (which happened firstly in Russia and then in China, according to the prophecy of Swamiji) with Dictatorship of the Proletariat where the objective is “From each according to his abilities to each, according to his needs”. Thus , for Karl Marx the Proletariat class had, in the beginning, complete control over the means of production hence supremacy in the process of social evolution. Moving in a cyclic order, there came, the Rule of Slave – owners, followed by the Rule of Landlords or Kings, then followed by the Rule of Capitalists, which ultimately gave way to the Rule of Proletariats.
Objectively speaking, “Evolution means progress or development from lower level to higher level of existence. Rule of Proletariat , as prophesied by Marx symbolizes the crystallization of lower materialistic tendencies , which cannot constitute the Summum Bonum or the Highest Good of human civilization. On the other hand, Rule of Brahmin or Brahma-gyani (wise men ) symbolizes the Rule of Perfection , which alone can be the Ultimate Goal of social evolution .Swamiji further prophesied that, with the turn of the present cycle commensurate with imminent Satya-yug , the Supremacy of Brahmins or brahm-gyanies will be established ,but with a difference i.e. there will be complete transformation of Shudras into Brahmins or Braham-gyanis (Wise persons ).Outlining a concrete program ,Swmiji said : “What
is the plan ? The ideal at one hand is the Brahmin (Perfection) and the ideal at the other hand is the Chandala (Imperfection) and the whole work is to raise Chandala upto the Brahmin….”and thus exhorted the non-Brahmins to use all “……their energies in acquiring the culture which the Brahmin has and the thing is done”.
The Social Evolution of Swami Vivekananda is thoroughly Teleological as distinguished from Karl Marx which is purely mechanical . According to Karl Marx evolutionary process moves Dialectally i.e. it involves three steps —- Thesis, Anti-thesis and Synthesis . Marx arbitrarily postulates that in the Nature there is an inherent contradiction or a struggle going on between two phenomena represented by : Thesis and Anti-thesis and this struggle leads to a higher stage —–Synthesis ,which owing to inner contradiction leads to further thesis ,anti-thesis and further synthesis and so and so forth ad infinitum .Karl Marx applied this Dialectical doctrine to social evolution and interpreted the evolution of Society through struggle and strife between different classes without any purpose or goal . This class struggle ultimately culminates in the highest synthesis, i.e. the stage of “Primitive Communism” where the supremacy of the Proletariat is fully and finally established.
Swami Vivekananda, on the other hand , perceived mutual co-operation and harmony among the different classes at different stages of Social Evolution . For Swamiji ,the ascendancy of one caste (Varna) to power at a particular period of History is preceded not,by strife and struggle ,suppression and extirpation of one class by the other , but by the aspirations of the masses who stand in need of new contribution to the society by a particular ruling caste or class —- viz. Brahmins came to enrich the society by imparting knowledge of all kinds –worldly and other-worldly ,the Kshatriyas to contribute military strength essential for progress of every country , Vaishyas for growing riches from fields and factories and the Shudras for providing services to the different stratas of society. Swamiji while discussing these contributions, emphatically stated that, “Whether the leadership of Society be in the hands of those who monopolise learning or wield the power of riches or of arms , the source of its power is always the subject masses.”
Between the two intellectual giants, which one has withstood the test of Time as the truest Prophet, Socialist, Humanist and Democrat?
I leave this question mark to my readers to muse over and answer .

SRI RAMAKRISHNA PARAMHANSA— THE GOD INCARNATE

Yada Yada hi Dharmasya Glanirbhawati Bharat Abhyuthhnam Adharmasya Tadatmanam Srijamyaham

DISCOURSE 1

The eternal truth expressed through this poignant shloka of the Bhagwat Geeta has kept resounding in the ears of every Indian from time immemorial with the highest aspiration of emergence of a God-incarnate in order to deliver the mankind from Adharma, the darkness which envelopes the world. By the end of eighteenth century & beginning of Nineteenth century the people inhabiting the Indian sub-continent were completely overpowered , mentally and physically by the banes of what Swami Vivekananda called “three “Bs” i.e. Bible Brandy and Bayonets” of British Rulers. This resulted in a mental disease, termed by French Philosopher Bergson as Diamorphism, from which both the ruled and the ruler suffered. The ruled subjects, owing to an acute inferiority complex are under delusion that they do not have the capacity to think and hence fated to suffer perennially. On the other hand the rulers are under the haughty illusion that they alone are capable of thinking rightly and hence fated to rule and to inflict suffering upon their indian subjects. The British rulers thus had ample justifications to thrust their beliefs ideas and ideals destroying our own beliefs, values, ideals etc, enshrined in our Holy scriptures.

It must be admitted that a nation is formed chiefly by the sense of belonging to a system of beliefs, ideas and ideals. A scholar of the standing of Sorely once remarked. ” Neither biography nor history is intelligible without reference to values- the national life shows unity and purpose, not SQ much by the wealth or power as by a community of interest that the same values appeal to all”. In this sense there were no such thing as Indian Nation in the early nineteenth century. It could not be urged that there was a body or system of common beliefs regarding human conduct and thought and, therefore, in such perious times to think of Indian Nationalism was no better than to revel in an insubstantial dream. Then, like a death- blow came the momentous resolution of Lord William Bentick in 1935 that” all the funds appropriated for the purpose of education would be best employed in English Education alone”. The fundamental norms of India thoughts and conduct were completely Westernised, ” The in- rush of a totally different civilization”, in the words of one Sri D.S. Sharma, ” put an end to all creative works for a time and an uncritical admiration for all things Western took possession of the minds of the educated, coupled with a contempt for things of native origin.” This was the death- sleep of Indian Nation, spiritually, mentally & physically.
After centuries of darkness, in the Eastern horizon there glistened a morning star on 18th Feb. 1836 in a remote village of Bengal known as Kamarpukur, heralding the emergence of a Deliverer from darkness, quite in conformity with the aspirations of the Indian masses expressed in the Bhagwat Geeta- Like all other parents of divine personages viz Lord Buddha, Jesus, Rama and Krishan etc, the mother of Sri Ramakrishna too had a strange dream in which she saw a luminous god lying on her bed and the dream turned true with the birth of Gadadhar. From the early boyhood Gadadhar had ecstatic mystic visions quite frequently, right from the age of six, which transformer; ” him into, what the village folk called him gayfully, ” Pagla Thakur”. At c Dakshineshwar one Rani Rasmoni, a low caste rich widow, founded a temple (13 of Goddess Kali and Gadadhar accepted to function as chief priest of the `) (f)u temple. It was his unwavering attachment to the Mother Kali of the templrat Li co Dakshineshwar that transformed Gadadhar, the pagla Thakur, into God-incarnate ” The one who became Rama & Krishna” or Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa” in course of time. Sri Ramakrishna’s life and thoughts present a bundle of contradictions. Although he was married to Sardamoni yet by all accounts, he had led the life of a celibate and worshipped his spouse as a manifestation of Divine mother Kali ,the one and only devotee of his kind in the whole religious world. He had no formal education or spiritual training what- so- ever, but still he proved a powerful magnet for the elites who were attracted by his utter humility, humanity mysticism and spirituality par- excellence. Outwardly he wore a child- like innocence, but inwardly he was a God- in toxicated mystic who had divine communion with the Mother-Kali ! yet like an Advaita Vedantin Sri Ram —Krishana proclaimed ” I am the Mother of the universe. I am the Brahman of Vedant, I am the Atman of the Upnishad” Further, the Advatin spirit in him did not turn him into a mystic completely withdrawn from the worldly life. For him service to the Daridra Narayan is the real service to the Narayan. Although he advocated for the life of action with a spirit of service which leads one unto God. The last of all contradictions is that although Sri Ramkrishna was deeply rooted in Hindu religion and culture, yet he practiced other religious rituals of Islam and Christianity with the same dedication. In the words of Swami Sardanand it is” after attainting perfection according to all faiths the Master had the firm conviction that all religious were true, that all the faiths were but so many paths” leading to the same Supreme Goal.
It is the reverberations of these thoughts of Sri Ramakrishna which found its full and profound expressions through his chosen disciple Swami Vivekananda in the Parliament of Religions, more than a century ago in Chicago U.S.A. “As the different streams having their sources in different places all mingle their water in the sea, so, 0 Lord , the different paths which men take through different tendencies, various though they may appear, crooked or straight, all lead to THEE” “Shat Shat Namara to the God- in carnate Sri Ramkrishan Paramhans”

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA,S IDEA OF NEW SOCIETY

One of the common misconceptions about Hindu philosophy in general and Swami Vivekananda in particular , is that the entire Indian philosophy is deeply rooted in abstract spiritualism and other -worldliness. As such ,there hardly remains any scope for Socio-political Ideas in Indian, life and culture .Swami Vivekananda being aware of the evils of extremely materialistic and practical outlook of the West. exhorted his western audience to seek ,not only material pleasures but spiritual Bliss .Hence he asked his Western audience to under take a journey from Advaitic ideal of Unity to secular ideals like Equality, Fraternity and Liberty, the great ideals which constitute the very foundations of Democracy . Swamiji envisioned a New Society with its roots in Spiritual Brotherhood of mankind , a society which represents a synthesis of secular and spiritual interests of mankind and where narrow nationalism gives way to Internationalism .
Now the question is ; how to translate the dreams of Swamiji into a reality ? For this , Swamiji said that we do not have to look elsewhere ; a dive into our scripures will reveal a concrete program , by implementing which one can realize the New Society and it will be greatest of all services offered to the ‘’Paragon of Vedantists ‘’ i.e. Swami Vivekananda .
The first and foremost condition for the descent of New Society is instilling the idea of equality into the minds of people. Economic interpretation of History , particularly as preferred by Marxists , reduces man to the level of aggregate of material atoms and thus seeks equality only on material level . Man is essentially a Spirit , a Divinity lodged in flesh. Swamiji thus believed that we cannot and should not seek equality at only material level but also at a higher or spiritual level. Ignorance has so far prevented us from knowing the true nature of self or spirit . When true knowledge dawns upon us the veil of ignorance is pierced the true seeker gets the vision of and all-pervasive Spirit which serves as the bond of spiritual brotherhood uniting the whole mankind . Swamiji is aware of the fact such and many other egalitarian concepts abound our scriptures and Philosophical systems of Indian Philosophy , yet the vices like caste conflicts, hatered among religious groups and untouchablity e.t.c. are plaguing our society and we have forgotten that we all are children of the same God.
Swami Vivekananda realizes the shortcomings of man and states ‘’ It is good to talk about the Vedanta ,but how hard to to carry out even its least precepts ‘’. As a remedy he does not suggest the abolition of Caste System ,but the revival of the original Chaturvarnya or the system of four classes ,having its roots ,not in heredity but in Swabhava or aptitude , which is acceptable even to our present day Socilogists. None of the four classes is inferior to other class .History is a testimony to the supremacy of each class over the other classes at different periods of history . ‘’The Brahmins or Priest class domnated the thought currents of the world during the glorious days of the ancient Hindu civilization ; then came the rule of the Kshatriya or King’s military as manifested through the supremacy of Europe from the time of Roman Empire to the middle of Seventeenth century. Next followed the rule of Vaishya or Captalist class marked by the rise of America . The Swami prophesied the coming supremacy of the Shudra Class or Proletariats “(Swami Nikhilananda ; Vivekananda—A Biography—p331) , a prophecy which materialized more accurately in U. S. S.R. in the year 1917 ,instead of China as predicted by Karl Marx , the father of Communist Philosophy. The question is ; whether the rule of Shudra or Proletariat is the ultimate goal of socio-political framework of a country ? Karl Marx fails when he says that the rule of Proletariat is final ,as we have witnessed the disintegration of U.S.S.R. in 1991. Swamiji believes in the cyclic pocess of all evolutionary thoughts. ‘’ The ideal on the one end is the Brahmin or Brahm-gyani (or Wise man) and the whole work is to raise Chandala (ignorant masses) upto the Brahmin “. When ths ultimate goal is achieved i.e. when every man is evolved into a Brahma-gyani or a Wise man ,the Spiritual Brotherhood is realized on this planet with the New Socety of Swami Vivekananda,s dream.
The second condition for the advent of the New Society is true education. Swamiji advocated for a “Man-making Education” which consists in unfolding of the whole personality of man , spiritual, social and material. Spiritual development ,which is the Ultimate Goal of man,s life , must be preceded by firstly , Brahamcharya Ashram with an unbroken celibacy in thought, action and words as long as he is undergoing training under his Guru .The extreme concentration at this stage finally leads the disciple to “………the manifestation of the perfection already in man’.But Swamiji cautions that Spiritual education should not be considered as the sole aim of education ; as Isha Vashyopnishad says:
‘’ Those who worship Avidya( rituals) enter into blinding darkness;
But into greater darkness enter they who ae engaged in Vidya
(meditation) only.””
In other words , along with spiritual education ,a man must acquire such education developed from time to time , which can help him too earn his bread , prepare him for struggle of existence ,to develop lion like courage to fight against all evils ,to inculcate a sense of Nationalism . Swamiji thus gave a call to the educated youths of his time and also the Administrators : “First make the people of the country stand on their legs by rousing their inner power ; first let them learn to have good foods and clothes and plenty of enjoyment , then tell them to free from bondage’’.The physical body is acquired as a result of our samskaras is, in fact ,a temple of which the ruling deity is our Spirit. In order to realize our Spirit one has to maintain the physical body .Swamiji thus emphasizes the need of studying the subjects which are useful for practical life . It should be borne in mind that study of subjects of practical use must not turn into ultimate goal of one,s life ,as seen in the present times .In fact , an education which would lead to the synthesis of spirit and matter , of theory and practice , of spiritual and secular interests forms, the true basis of New Society as envisioned by Swami Vivekananda
Last ,but not the least important step towards establishment of the New Society is that every individual must have a realization like the ancient Greek philosopher Diogenes that each individual is ‘’a man of the Universe ‘’.Swamiji had immense love for his Motherland and was never tired while waxing eloquent the glory of India. Since Swamiji did not actively participate in Freedom Struggle which had already commenced with Sepoy Mutiny in 1857 , some of the critics of Swamiji without delving deep into his writings , mistakenly brand him as Escapist. These critics seem to be unaware of the facts that Swamiji had made contacts with the Indian Revolutionaries like Bal Gangadhar Tilak ,Sakharam Deoskar ,the Russian Anarchist Prince Korpotkin ,American gun-maker Sir Hiram Maxim for the overthrow of British Rule from India. Swamiji realized quite early that ‘’………every improvement in India requires first of all an upheaval in religion. Before flooding India with socialistic and political ideas first deluge the land with Spiritual Ideas’’.
Guided by the above realization Swami Vivekananda gave a thunderous call to sleeping Indian masses : ‘’ Arise, Awake, and stop not till the Goal is achieved.’’,a call which brought in its trail a cultural renaissance to culminate in the complete independence from foreign rule under which India was writhing for a millennium .Swamiji,s love for the Motherland does not end in narrow Nationalism which in its extreme forms leads to barbarism of worst kind ,as witnessed in the Nazi Rule under the dictatorship of Adolf Hitler in mid-thirties and forties of last century. Swamiji,s love for Motherland led him to the vision of such a New Society which enlarges gradually to encompass the whole world . In the words of Swami Vivekananda : ‘’ Gradually those nations are joining ,and I am sure ,the day will come when separation will vanish and that Oneness to which we are all going will become manifest ‘’, foreshadowing the emergence of world bodies like League of Nations or United Nation Organization e.t.c.in the second half of Twentieth Century.

RE-AWAKENING , RESURRECTION, RECASEMENT OF PIOUS SOULSO

The departure to heavenly abode of Great Souls is generally marked by miracles which may be due to the Divinity lodged in them ,or an attempt to prove them Divine . On the departure of Maharishi SriAurobindo ,between 5th to9th December 1950 Newspapers reported about an Aura golden glows emanating from the supremely silent Samadhisth Sri Aurobindo .This event can be termed as….”A jewel which shines through its own glows , a Purushottam who outstands all others ,an Avatar whose desc
ended on the planet for the ascent of humanity.
My shat shat naman the Supra mental Icon for the rest of humanity.”This phenomenon can be likened with Re-incarnation.

Likewise, departure of Jesus Christ is preceded by miracles, viz. Incessant rain, lightening, thunder, earthquake etc. These events forced His followers to flee from the site of Crucifixion on ,paradoxically called Good Friday, except few women followers who remained at the site to witness the final miracle, busting of His grave and Rising of Jesus which is termed as “Resurrection of Jesus Christ “.Compared to Reawakening of Sri Aurobindo , Resurrection of Jesus Christ seems to me more materialistic than former,s Reawakening which sounds more spiritual than material.Of course ,Christ,s Resurrection involved intense faith and produced good results for the spread of Christianity.

Next miracle at the time of final departure of 15th. Century Saint Xavier at the then Portuguese colony Goa (India) occurred when Saint,s followers discovered that his dead body didn’t decompose for few days after he breathed last. This led some of his blind followers to embalming Saint Xavier and encasing him in an air tight glass case which has been Defied by them. Re-encasement , as we call it , is the worst form of denigration of a pious St. Xavier which is more a dis-service than a devotion which the Saint deserved.
